Day 1: The Medieval City of Carcassonne

Arrive in Carcassonne in the afternoon and check in at your 3* hotel, just a 10-minute walk from the Cité.

Discover the Medieval City, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997. Visit the Château Comtal and the city walls: the courtyards, the palace, the keep, the walkways, the North and West ramparts. Learn about the restoration of the Cité carried out by Viollet-le-Duc, presented through a film and scale model.

Stroll through the picturesque streets and admire the historic buildings: the Porte Narbonnaise, a true defensive bastion, the outer walls, the lices, and of course the Saint-Nazaire Saint-Celse Basilica, blending Romanesque and Gothic architecture. Take the opportunity to shop in the local artisan boutiques.

Day 2: The Bastide and the Canal du Midi

Visit of the Bastide

Cross the Pont-Vieux to discover the lower town of Carcassonne, called "the Bastide". Enjoy self-guided visits at the Maison des Mémoires, the Fine Arts Museum, or Saint-Vincent Cathedral… and end your walk at the marina along the Canal du Midi.

Canal du Midi Cruise

Embark on a 2-hour cruise with lock passages along the Canal du Midi. Discover this engineering masterpiece, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, created by Pierre-Paul Riquet under the reign of the Sun King, while enjoying a relaxing boat ride.

If you plan to visit between 1st November and 30th March, the Canal du Midi cruise will be replaced by other excursions: Paper Mill, Lastours Castles, Caunes-Minervois Abbey, Limousis Cave…
