In Cambounet-sur-le-Sor, Bruno and Régine welcome visitors to their estate dedicated to dye plants. This visit offers the opportunity to discover the history of woad, known as the blue gold of the Pays de Cocagne, as well as a craft that has been passed down through five generations. In an authentic setting, visitors learn about the historical and economic importance of this emblematic plant, which contributed to the renown of what is now Occitanie. This site is unique in France: it remains the only place where woad is cultivated, pigment is extracted and dyeing is carried out using traditional methods that respect both the environment and French historical heritage.

Follow every step of the woad transformation process

The visit immerses participants in a production process that is entirely managed on-site. From the woad fields to the indigo workshop, visitors discover the different stages of cultivation, harvesting, pigment extraction and preparation of the plant-based dye. The explanations provide a better understanding of how Isatis Tinctoria is transformed into an exceptional natural blue pigment through traditional and environmentally friendly methods.

Watch the master woad maker demonstration

The 1.5-hour discovery tour includes a visit to the estate and a dyeing demonstration led by the master woad maker. This presentation allows visitors to observe ancestral techniques, dye vats and the methods used to achieve the famous shades of pastel blue. Throughout the visit, guests enjoy a privileged opportunity to exchange with passionate artisans who enthusiastically share their expertise.

Take part in a plant-based dyeing workshop

The 2-hour workshop experience allows visitors to go further by creating their own dyed textile. After discovering the different stages of pigment production, participants get hands-on and dye a textile themselves using traditional vats. For individual visitors, the textile is selected and purchased on-site before the workshop. For groups and school parties, the scarf to be dyed is included in the activity. Everyone leaves with an original creation and a unique souvenir of their experience.
