Founded in the 12th century, the Sainte-Marie de Valmagne Abbey is one of the most beautiful Cistercian abbeys in France. Its impressive nave, nicknamed the “Cathedral of the Vines”, reflects its spiritual heritage and its close connection with wine culture.
A journey through heritage and nature
The 1-hour guided tour, or self-guided audio visit, leads you through the cloister and its aromatic gardens, ideal spaces for relaxation and contemplation. You will also discover the chapter house, the monks’ refectory, and the vast cellars where wine barrels still rest today, continuing a centuries-old winemaking tradition.
A lively and convivial experience
Throughout the visit, the abbey reveals its many facets: a place of worship, wine estate, and listed historic site. Tastings of wines from the Valmagne vineyard extend the experience, offering an authentic moment of sharing, ideal for couples, families, and groups.

- Guided tours at fixed times (minimum 5 people, no prior booking required) or self-guided tours of the abbey, with materials available in several languages: English, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Russian.
- Conservatory of grape varieties: discover the different varieties that make up the estate’s cuvées, all from organic farming.
- The gatehouse, a 13th-century building, houses a small wine museum, formerly the concierge’s lodge and the chapel for strangers.
- The medieval garden, rich with vegetables, fruit trees, and medicinal plants once cultivated by the monks.
- Temporary exhibitions: the abbey regularly hosts art or themed exhibitions, renewing the interest of each visit.
- Tasting of organic wines from the Valmagne vineyard, to extend the experience with a gourmet touch.

Specially designed for families from 4 to 99 years old, this game-visit offers a unique experience in the hidden corners of the abbey! You will be immersed in a fantastic story in search of the lost treasure of Valmagne’s colors! A tasting of our wines will be offered at the end of the game.

Conditions & Validity
Book today and come whenever you wish, within the indicated opening days and hours.
Abbey and tasting cellar: Open all year round except December 25 and January 1.
- From October 1 to April 14: Tuesday to Friday from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm, and Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays and long weekends from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. Closed on Mondays.
- In January: closed on Sunday mornings.
- From April 15 to September 30: open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm. Closed on Mondays, except in July, August, and September.
Guided tour times (minimum 5 people): Every day at 11:00 am, only on weekends during the low season, and at 3:00 pm and 4:15 pm.
