On your visit agenda

Visit Lombrives Cave: adventure, myths, and legends of the Pyrenees

It all begins with a 1.4 km walk along a hiking trail or a ride on the small tourist train to the entrance of Lombrives Cave. From the entrance, a guide accompanies you and narrates your exploration of this fascinating world where prehistory, history, and legends have left their marks.

A cave with multiple stories

Shelter for the Magdalenians, burial site for Bronze Age humans, Cathar sacred site, Protestant refuge, frequented by kings… Lombrives has always fascinated humans, leaving thousands of signatures and enigmatic symbols throughout the ages.

The underground route

You cross the Carène, walk along the fissure, pass through the Passage of Crime, and discover the grand amphitheater: a true natural sacred cathedral ideal for reflection but also for cultural events. The route continues to the upper level and the great cemetery gallery, then through galleries adorned with spectacular formations. After the main staircase, the upper level opens to the great cemetery gallery. You then pass through galleries with curious formations, arriving at the tomb of Princess Pyrène, the mythical origin of the Pyreneans according to Greek mythology.

Must-see sites at Lombrives

  • The tomb of Princess Pyrène, mother goddess of the Pyrenees according to Greek mythology.
  • The mysterious lake with fascinating ripples.
  • The Carène gallery: enter the seismic fissure stretching nearly 80 m, a unique and spectacular phenomenon.
  • The amphitheater or cathedral with more than 80 m of ceiling height and exceptional acoustics, hosting concerts throughout the year.
  • Remarkable formations: Mammoth, Witch, Tomb of Pyrène…

Why visit Lombrives?

For its stories, myths, and legends. Because the cave is preserved in its natural state and offers over 2 km of exceptional galleries. Also for the diversity of its network: it is not just a single cave, but multiple caves to explore, each room unique and remarkable. Every turn brings a new wonder for both children and adults. In summary, a guided tour of Lombrives Cave is an unforgettable experience combining history, geology, and wonder in the Pyrenees.

The little extras we love

Each cave offers a unique and fascinating experience! If we had to highlight just two, we would keep the exceptional Carène gallery, where you can enter a seismic fissure and admire the extraordinary aesthetics of this geological fault over nearly 80 meters—a truly unique phenomenon. We also highlight the cathedral, with a ceiling height of over 80 meters, featuring exceptional acoustics. Concerts are held there throughout the year.
